The installation will measure approximately 9.5 metres by 45 metres and will be made of robust materials attached to a rigid framework.

The installation will be mounted to the southeast facing exterior aspect of the building looking onto Lever Street.

In addition to being a major artwork, the installation will be a sun-screen to shade the windows behind it, plus it will act as an acoustic baffle to reduce sound. To satisfy these requirements, the design must not be totally solid, but should comprise 40% solid area to provide shading and noise reduction.A view from the office space (behind the screen) and daylight admittance should be considered.

Creative Criteria

The competition imposes no design restrictions or stipulations governing your design; however it should be an expression of the creative energies that will underline The Hive’s ambience and atmosphere, bearing in mind that The Hive will contain:
• Contemporary loft-offices
• A green roof terrace for occupants
• Stevenson Arcade – a cutting-edge retail area
• A communal open space (wi-fi’d for 24-hour connectivity)
• Restaurant and café-bar

2.
Your design should be accompanied by a written rationale (in no more than 250 words) that describes your approach to the challenge, the reasoning behind your design and any other information you deem relevant.


Judging the entries

Submitted design entries will be judged by an assessment panel of high-profile design and architectural experts, giving you exposure to some of the best professional creative talents in the UK. More details will be announced shortly.
